nanoFTPd is modular, so it's easy to add custom modules and other stuff, like different database interfaces (currently supports mysql and postgresql).
nanoFTPd's other advantage is, that it's not so robust as other ftp daemons written in a different programming language. And at last, but not at least, nanoFTPd is the first in it's category...
